Good decisions don’t just happen. They take planning and effort. In the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) Foundations in Public Participation course, you will learn to apply AP2’s approach to public participation in your very next process. This course helps you gain the confidence you need to hit the ground running. The Foundations Program consists of 2 modules (5 training days in total) that can be taken either consecutively or in two segments to fit your schedule. This offering is only the first of the two modules in this training.

This hands-on course gives you the opportunity to delve into your own challenges using the essential elements of effective public participation planning.

  • Evaluating the scope of a decision and identifying the processes needed.

  • Establishing roles and responsibilities of the primary parties.

  • Developing a comprehensive, decision impact analysis to identify the stakeholder community, their concerns, and hopes.

  • Developing a detailed public participation plan.

  • Planning for communications initiatives that support the process.

  • Identifying appropriate evaluation tools to measure the effectiveness of the initiative.

This course is a prerequisite for the subsequent module, Techniques for Effective Public Participation.
