Participatory Budgeting
Working together with the City of Calgary, Dialogue Partners engaged 24,000 people in a conversation about the 2012-2014 Municipal Budget during the first half of 2011. We continue to be keenly interested in participatory budgeting both in Canada and around the world. We recently came across this article in The Guardian, a British publication that closely follows participatory budgeting. The author discusses 6 steps to meaningful budget consultations in a time when Council and local government has limited funding to implement wide-scale public participation.
